It sits roughly 7 miles southwest of downtown Columbia, making it a quick and straightforward drive for most groups. To arrange a group airport shuttle, simply fill out one quick form on Charterbusrentalcolumbiasc.com with your flight arrival or departure details, group size, and pickup location. Columbia traffic is most congested on I-26, I-20, and I-77 during the morning rush (7–9 a.m.) and afternoon rush (4–6:30 p.m.) on weekdays. The area around Williams-Brice Stadium and the Gamecock Park Road corridor sees severe congestion on South Carolina football Saturdays, plan for significant delays within a 2-mile radius of the stadium for up to three hours before kickoff and two hours after. The I-26/I-20 interchange near downtown is also a known bottleneck.
For event travel, adding 30–45 minutes of buffer time is strongly recommended.
Williams-Brice Stadium designates specific motorcoach and charter bus parking areas that vary by game. The University of South Carolina Athletics Department manages event parking, and oversized vehicle permits typically need to be arranged in advance through the USC parking office. Buses generally unload near the stadium's outer perimeter before relocating to a designated bus lot.
Bus parking assignments can shift based on event size and configuration, so build time into the itinerary for the group to reach its assigned bus area.
Yes — several. South Carolina Gamecocks home football games (September through November) are the single biggest factor of bus demand in Columbia each fall. Famously Hot New Year in December, the South Carolina State Fair (mid-October at 1200 Rosewood Dr, Columbia, SC 29201), the Palmetto Championship weekend, and major concerts at Colonial Life Arena all create tight availability windows.
Prom season (April–May) is also extremely competitive across Richland and Lexington counties. For any of these dates, booking three to six months in advance is strongly advised.
Absolutely. Columbia sits roughly 100 miles from Myrtle Beach and about 115 miles from Hilton Head Island, both popular day-trip and weekend-trip destinations for Columbia groups. The drive to Myrtle Beach via US-378 East takes approximately 2 hours under normal conditions.
Hilton Head via I-26 East and US-278 is a similar drive time. Full-size charter buses with onboard restrooms, reclining seats, WiFi, and undercarriage luggage storage make the trip genuinely comfortable. Fill out one quick form on Charterbusrentalcolumbiasc.com to compare long-distance Columbia bus options for your beach trip!
Charterbusrentalcolumbiasc.com connects you with bus companies serving Columbia and the entire surrounding Midlands region, including West Columbia, Lexington, Irmo, Chapin, Blythewood, Elgin, Forest Acres, Cayce, Gaston, and beyond. For most Columbia trips, booking two to three months in advance gives you the best combination of vehicle selection and competitive pricing. For high-demand dates, Gamecocks home football Saturdays, prom season, the SC State Fair, New Year's Eve, and major concerts at Colonial Life Arena, booking four to six months out is strongly recommended. The best buses in the network get claimed early, and waiting until the last minute almost always means higher rates and limited options.
Don't risk it! Fill out one quick form right now or call 839-288-0930 to lock in your Columbia bus before your date disappears.

Riverbanks Zoo and Garden
Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is one of the Southeast's premier zoological parks, consistently ranking among the top zoos in the United States. Situated along the Saluda River, the 170-acre property is home to more than 2,000 animals and a stunning botanical garden that covers 70 acres across the river. Charter bus groups visiting Riverbanks should plan for drop-off at the main entrance on Wildlife Parkway, with bus parking available in the designated oversized vehicle areas in the main parking lot.
Riverbanks walk-up bus parking is $10 per bus, which isn't included in your quote. Admission discounts are available for groups of 15 or more when booked in advance through the zoo's group sales office.
South Carolina State Museum
South Carolina State Museum occupies the historic Columbia Mills building, the world's first entirely electrically powered textile mill. Four floors of exhibits cover South Carolina's natural history, cultural history, art, science, and technology, making it an outstanding destination for school groups, corporate outings, and tourism groups alike. The museum sits on the west end of the Vista district, steps from the Congaree Riverwalk.
Charter buses can drop off groups at the main entrance on Gervais Street, with oversized vehicle parking available in nearby surface lots along Gervais and Assembly Streets. The museum's planetarium and 4D theater are popular add-ons for group visits and require advance reservation.
EdVenture Children's Museum
EdVenture Children's Museum is one of the largest children's museums in the Southeast, drawing families, school groups, and youth organizations from across South Carolina and beyond. The centerpiece of the museum is Eddie, a 40-foot-tall interactive figure that children can actually climb inside, one of the most memorable exhibits of any children's museum in the region. EdVenture is located in Columbia's Vista district, adjacent to the South Carolina State Museum, making it easy to combine both destinations in a single group day trip.
Charter buses drop off at the main entrance on Gervais Street, and group admission rates are available for parties of 10 or more. Advance booking for school groups is strongly recommended, especially during the spring field trip season.
Colonial Life Arena
Colonial Life Arena is Columbia's premier indoor entertainment venue, seating up to 18,000 for concerts and sporting events. Home to the University of South Carolina Gamecocks men's and women's basketball programs, the arena also hosts major touring concerts, family shows, and special events throughout the year. Charter buses and motorcoaches serving Colonial Life Arena events typically use the designated bus drop-off zones on Blossom Street and Lincoln Street along the arena's exterior perimeter.
Oversized vehicle parking is coordinated on an event-by-event basis through the arena's operations team, and bus parking assignments vary by event. The arena is located in the heart of USC's campus, making post-event navigation straightforward.
Williams-Brice Stadium
Williams-Brice Stadium is the iconic home of South Carolina Gamecocks football, seating over 77,000 fans on game day and routinely ranking among the loudest and most electric atmospheres in college football. The stadium sits in the Gamecock Park complex south of downtown Columbia, easily accessible from I-26 and I-77. Charter bus groups attending Gamecocks games should arrange motorcoach permits and confirm current bus drop-off and parking assignments, as they vary by game.
Buses typically unload along the stadium's outer perimeter roads before relocating to designated oversized vehicle lots. Tailgating culture is enormous here, plan for your group to arrive at least three hours before kickoff.
Congaree National Park
Congaree National Park (100 National Park Rd, Hopkins, SC 29061) is the only national park in South Carolina and one of the most ecologically significant in the entire eastern United States. The park protects the largest intact expanse of old-growth bottomland hardwood forest in North America, with champion trees towering above a stunning floodplain landscape. Located approximately 20 miles southeast of downtown Columbia, Congaree is a popular destination for school groups, nature organizations, corporate wellness outings, and tourism groups.
Charter buses drop off at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center, where bus parking is available in the main lot. Larger-vehicle parking is limited at the visitor center, and the lots commonly fill early on busy days. For a Columbia charter bus group, an early arrival helps make the most of the limited spaces in the lot for larger vehicles.
The park's 25-mile trail system includes the iconic Boardwalk Loop, which provides accessible access to the heart of the old-growth forest. Ranger-led group programs are available with advance reservation.
Columbia Museum of Art
Columbia Museum of Art anchors Columbia's Main Street arts corridor with a permanent collection spanning 5,000 years of art history, from Renaissance masterworks and Baroque paintings to American modernism and decorative arts. The museum regularly hosts touring exhibitions, community programs, and special events that draw visitors from across the Midlands and beyond. Situated in the heart of downtown Columbia, the museum is easily accessible by charter bus, with drop-off on Main Street and metered bus parking available on adjacent side streets.
Group admission rates are available for parties of 10 or more, and private guided tours can be arranged in advance for educational and corporate groups. The museum's Kress Collection of Italian Renaissance and Baroque paintings is a particular highlight not to miss.
Historic Columbia House Museums
Historic Columbia operates a remarkable collection of preserved house museums across the city, offering group tours that bring South Carolina's antebellum and Reconstruction-era history vividly to life. The portfolio includes the Robert Mills House (1616 Blanding St, Columbia, SC 29201), designed by the architect of the Washington Monument; the Hampton-Preston Mansion (1615 Blanding St, Columbia, SC 29201), one of Columbia's grandest surviving antebellum homes; and the Woodrow Wilson Family Home (1705 Hampton St, Columbia, SC 29201), birthplace of the 28th President of the United States. Charter buses serving this cluster of museums can drop off groups on Blanding Street or Hampton Street, with on-street bus parking available nearby.
Group tours require advance reservation through Historic Columbia's education department, and costumed interpreter programs are available for school and tourism groups.
